KIMA, a new Japanese restaurant, is set to open its doors on Friday, June 13 in Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT), Dubai. Inspired by the casual energy of a Tokyo neighbourhood izakaya, KIMA brings a laidback, no-frills dining experience focused entirely on food, drinks, and atmosphere.

The name izakaya translates from Japanese as “stay, drink, and place,” which perfectly captures KIMA’s approach. The restaurant’s tagline — “No suits, no filters – just food, drinks, and good noise” — reflects its emphasis on authenticity over aesthetics.

Inside, the space is intentionally relaxed, designed to replicate the close-knit, communal feel of traditional Japanese venues. Diners can choose between small or large tables and countertop seating that leads into the open kitchen. The walls are decorated with vintage Japanese posters and vinyl records, while an illuminated exterior sign in yellow and red draws attention from the street.

KIMA’s food selection includes donburi, maki, small plates (takoyaki, kimchi, prawn gyoza, salmon sashimi), and Mochi Ice Cream for dessert. A number of standout signature offers, listed under “KIMA dishes.”

Each item reflects the core values of izakaya dining — flavourful, approachable, and designed to share.

KIMA is not built for flashy trends or photo ops — it’s a dining space for those who appreciate straightforward, well-executed Japanese food in a comfortable setting.
